About Me

I am a budding Junior Developer who has recently completed General Assembly's Software Engineering Bootcamp and I am now looking for my first role as a developer to get really stuck in, continue to challenge myself and cultivate my coding skills.

My introduction to coding came early in my career, whilst working in the logistics industry, where I taught myself to write macros for Excel using Visual Basic. I consequently moved into food and beverage where I eventually specialised in e-commerce operations and dabbled with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Liquid.

A huge part of my identity is my passion for food and drink. I have an unrelenting thirst for knowledge on the subject and at home you will regularly find me in the kitchen or buried in a cookbook. My obsession has led to me shamelessly amassing a sizeable and ever-growing collection of cookbooks, of which my favourites would be the books on Sri Lankan cooking, particularly my copy of the Ceylon Daily News Cookery book from the 1950s. I am also a motorsports fan and have interests in music and film.

Post-Bootcamp Projects

My React Showcase

A fully responsive, mobile friendly Single-Page App (SPA) for me to showcase small projects that I have built with React, JavaScript, Bootstrap, JSX, HTML and CSS.

The app currently consists of a caclulator, pomodoro timer and a to-do list. I will be focussing on adding other features and mini-projects that can help me practice and improve my skills with React, particularly the full range of React hooks.

General Assembly Projects

Quiz Stack

A quiz app for junior developers built as a full stack MERN (Mongo, Express, React Node.js) app also using Bootstrap, HTML and CSS with full CRUD functionality. I decided to build this project as a tool for junior developers (mainly me) to use for revision and to test their knowledge. Quiz Stack was built in 7 days as a solo project. Quiz Stack allowed me to cement my knowledge of React and build my confidence level with it over the course of the project.

NutriCO2

A recipe CO2e emissions and nutrition calculator made with Python, Django, PostgreSQL, HTML and CSS. On this project I focused on implementing an optical character recognition API and the recipe database functionality. NutriCO2 was built in 7 days as a pair project. NutriCO2 presented an opportunity for me to re-familiarise myself with SQL and further develop my understanding of Django's ORM.

Discoid

An online music marketplace focusing on the sale of vinyl records. This app has full CRUD functionality and was made with JavaScript, jQuery, MongoDB, Express and Node.js. On this project I focused on building the shopping cart and integrating the spotify API as a search function to get metadata for records. Discoid was built in 7 days as a pair project. Discoid provided the means for me to further my understanding of CRUD functionality and HTTP requests.

Hop Little Bunny

A browser based game made with JavaScript, jQuery, jQuery UI, HTML and CSS. Inspired by the outstanding side scrolling games of the late '80s and early '90s, the simple mechanics of the viral hit flappy bird and one of my daughter's favourite nursery rhymes. Built in 7 days as a solo project. Hop Little Bunny was a great foundation to build from and helped me prove to myself what I could achieve.

I had oversight for day-to-day management of ottolenghi.co.uk including maintenance of Brightpearl ERP system and Magento e-commerce platform, management of the warehouse team, regular reporting on sales and user behaviour as well as finding opportunities to increase profitability.

Lina Stores | Operations Manager | May 14 - May 18

I helped guide this Soho institution through a considerable period of modernisation. I lead the launch of the e-commerce website as well as a consequent platform change. Aside from e-commerce I focussed on increasing and improving our data in order to bolster our decision making, finding efficiencies through streamlining plus defining and refining our processes.

DHL Express | Various Roles | Nov 08 - Jan 13

I held various operational roles, working in the companies more unique divisions. My responsibilities were broad from co-ordinating the distribution of new film releases and account managment to managing a national fleet of sameday couriers.
